Dark Souls Remastered Torrent is an action RPG situated in the realm of Lordran at the culmination of the Age of Fire. The domain is devastated by an epidemic of undeath, stemming from the actions of one of Lordran’s influential entities, the King of Anor Londo. Overwhelmed by the fear of humanity ushering in the Age of Dark, he resorts to self-inflicted measures to artificially prolong the burning of the initial flame. Individuals afflicted with Undeath bear the mark of the Darksign and are cast into the Northern Undead Asylum.
Here, the player assumes the role of the Chosen Undead, a protagonist/antagonist without a voice, destined to escape this undead prison and determine the course of either ushering in the Age of Dark or perpetuating the Age of Fire by linking the flame.
The outstanding level design of Dark Souls is enhanced by its user-friendly combat and gameplay. The gameplay primarily revolves around decisions and the balance between risk and reward. Utilizing the standard control layout, sprinting disrupts camera control, as does evading. Although the lock-on system mitigates this issue during combat, it introduces a critical flaw. While locked onto an enemy in Dark Souls Remastered Torrent, dodging is confined to a four-directional grid.
Although this flaw was rectified in subsequent Dark Souls games and Bloodborne, it inexplicably persists in the remaster of the 2011 title. This becomes particularly vexing in battles featuring environmental hazards, where a slight deviation in joystick orientation can lead to unintended dodges, potentially endangering the player. Addressing this issue in the remaster could have enhanced the gameplay without compromising the game’s integrity.
The renowned difficulty of Dark Souls is enriched by the online system unique to the series, fostering transient connections. Players can “invite” fellow adventurers to aid them by discovering their signs on the ground. When faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, these companions can assist in overcoming obstacles, only to vanish once the threat has been neutralized.
On the positive side of online play, there are also invasions. Unlike most games with dedicated multiplayer menus, Dark Souls introduces enemies into your world without prior warning, presenting a revolutionary challenge.
In terms of ‘remastering’ gameplay, FromSoftware has not introduced substantial changes. While the multiplayer capacity has expanded from 4 to 6 players, the remaster fails to address potential game-breaking bugs. Persistent issues such as chain-backstabbing, and a Player vs. player (PVP) exploit allowing repeated critical hits, hinder opponents from reacting. Additionally, there are areas with inconspicuous walls that obstruct players from following designated paths.
