Delta Force Torrent is a video game about elite military fights against terrorists and rebel groups. You can play the game from either a first- or third-person perspective. You can even do both at once, thanks to a feature that lets you see your first-person view in a small window while playing in third-person.
Comparisons to another game called Rainbow Six are bound to happen, but Delta Squad is only somewhat like Red Storm’s tactical shooter. In Delta Squad, you don’t plan your missions; they’re given to you. Also, you don’t get to work with a big team of seven. Usually, you’ll have two to four other soldiers with you, but they’re part of separate teams that you can’t control (and they often have different missions). Lastly, all of the game’s 40 missions happen outdoors. The main similarities between the two games are the elite military theme and the semi-realistic action where one shot usually means one kill.
Delta Force Torrent Magnet has five campaigns you can play alone, each against a different enemy in a different place: a drug lord in Peru, terrorists in Chad, terrorists in Indonesia, rebels in Uzbekistan, and more terrorists on a Russian island called Novaya Zemlya. The foliage (which is usually pretty thin), the buildings, and the bad guys all change depending on where you are, but the landscapes are mostly the same, just different colors (green for jungles, tan for deserts, white for snowy areas, and so on). Rolling hills and flat areas with deep, smooth canyons are the most common types of terrain.
Most of your missions involve finding and destroying an enemy base, but they’re different because the bases vary a lot. At the start of the game, you’ll find bases guarded by foot soldiers, a few patrols, and maybe a guard tower or two. Later on, the bases become much harder, with bunkers, razor wire fences, more patrols, and even enemy helicopters.
The game’s sound effects and 3D positional sound make the battlefield feel very real. The sound of bullets flying past is often the only sign that you’re being shot at. When bullets hit the ground around you, it’s time to move quickly. Also, the enemies’ shouts will tell you if they’ve seen you. Once, after shooting a Peruvian soldier up close, I heard him yell “Medic! Medic!” before falling.
The sound effects of the weapons, from the silenced H&K MP5 to the powerful M249 SAW, are great – maybe the best I’ve ever heard. In multiplayer games, the sounds of all the players’ weapons together make it feel like a real battle zone. Delta Force Torrent is a very impressive game, even though the graphics aren’t the best and there are some problems with multiplayer. The great single-player gameplay, the good multiplayer, and the realistic battlefield environment make it a really impressive game. Any fan of action games who’s willing to overlook the graphics will find a game that’s just as good as Rainbow Six. Just make sure your computer is powerful enough, or you’ll end up wasting all your bullets shooting at almost-moving pixels.
